Does it still?<\/h2>\n<p>Websites rot silently: plugins fall behind, pages slow down, forms break, Google loses interest. Here are eight checks \u2014 each under two minutes, none of them technical. Grab your phone and your laptop.<\/p>\n<h2>1. The phone test (2 min)<\/h2>\n<p>Open your site on your phone, on mobile data (not Wi-Fi). Count seconds until you can read and tap. More than 4\u20135 seconds? You are losing roughly half your visitors before they see anything.<\/p>\n<h2>2. The speed score (2 min)<\/h2>\n<p>Search &#8220;PageSpeed Insights&#8221;, enter your homepage URL. Look at the <strong>mobile<\/strong> score. 90+ excellent \u00b7 60\u201389 needs work \u00b7 under 50, this is your first priority.<\/p>\n<h2>3. The lock icon (30 sec)<\/h2>\n<p>Does the browser show a padlock (HTTPS)? A &#8220;Not secure&#8221; warning next to your business name destroys trust instantly \u2014 and Google demotes it.<\/p>\n<h2>4. The Google search test (1 min)<\/h2>\n<p>Search your business name. Do you appear first? Is the title\/description under your link something a human would click \u2014 or raw jargon like &#8220;Home | site&#8221;? Then search what a customer would type (e.g. &#8220;dermatologist in Salt Lake&#8221;) and see if you exist at all.<\/p>\n<h2>5. The contact test (2 min)<\/h2>\n<p>Fill your own contact form. Did the message arrive? Call the number on the site. Tap the WhatsApp button. You would be amazed how many businesses have had a dead form for months.<\/p>\n<h2>6. The stale-content scan (1 min)<\/h2>\n<p>Any mention of 2023 prices, past events advertised as upcoming, &#8220;coming soon&#8221; pages that never came? Stale content tells visitors nobody is home.<\/p>\n<h2>7. The one-CTA check (1 min)<\/h2>\n<p>Open your homepage and ask: what is the ONE thing I want a visitor to do \u2014 and is there an obvious button for it above the fold? If a stranger cannot answer in five seconds, neither can your customers.<\/p>\n<h2>8. The backup question (30 sec)<\/h2>\n<p>Do you know \u2014 not hope, know \u2014 that a copy of your website exists somewhere, and who can restore it? If the answer is &#8220;my old developer maybe&#8221;, that is a business risk, not a technical detail.<\/p>\n<h2>Scoring<\/h2>\n<p><strong>7\u20138 passes:<\/strong> healthy, review quarterly. <strong>4\u20136:<\/strong> fixable in a weekend \u2014 start with speed and the contact test. <strong>0\u20133:<\/strong> your website is actively costing you money; fix it or get help this month.<\/p>\n<p><em>Failed a check and not sure how bad it is?
